Light sensitivity

Well, i am here wishing thqt i never had had BOTOX (Dysport actually). My right eye has closed completely, and my left eye is a bit droopy, but won't close all the way either. The squeezing has stopped...but at what price! has anyone else had a problem with greatly increased light sensitivity after Botox? Does it waer off? my eyes hve always been better outside before.. Now I need to wear visor, sungleasses peaked cap etc...al over a space of 10 days. I would say from about 50% function I have deterirated to 15% function. Maybe it will improve..I guess it's early days. Aaah well....
I am so grateful though for all the info on how to deal with dry eyes...lachrilube has been a life saver at night, and liquifilm during the day. My Doc. never gave any mention of dry eyes! I don't know what i would have done without you.
My eyes are too sore to use the computer much too..never been a problem before..my hands used to give up before my eyes!
I have an MRI scan of my pituitary booked for 5th Novemeber..
Well thanks again for all the useful info
Claire..who wants to go right back to prebotox...

All of the side effects you mention occur with Botox injections: drier eyes, increased light sensitivity, inability to completely close one or both eyes, ptosis. It's a real trade-off as to whether the Botox is worth it for you. As Delaine posted, ptosis can be avoided with altered injections sites, but the others are up to you to manage, basically the way you are already doing. Be sure to tell your doctor about your symptoms and he may be able to alter the dosage and injection sites to decrease the severity of your side effects. The good news is that the Botox does wear off. My worst ptosis lasted about a month. Like Delaine, I know which injections cause it for me (above and center of eyebrow) and we avoid that area. Good luck and persevere.

I'm due Nov.7 for my 4th set of injections. And I'm already haveing problems but doctorsays I have to wait. Desperly I guess I will. I bemped into the wall this morning while going to the bathroom. And yeserday twice into two persons
I excused myself but its bad. I wish there were something less that we would be abel to do with this ugly disease.
Take care Claire

Hi Claire,

Definitely for me light sensitivity is more of a problem after my botox injections. I had the latest set last Wednesday and had to wear very dark glasses in church this morning and couldn't read anything whilst there, but I enjoyed the sanctuary, service and fellowship anyway. My side-effect symptoms last about a month (I know others don't experience this -- but we are all different) and then things settle down. Even then I still wear dark glasses when outside and a cap/hat/visor of some kind, but the light sensitivity is a lot better. During this month I use Celluvisc drops every hour and at least 2 applications of Lacrilube cream during the night hours with the eyes covered - the eyes are that dry.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble - hang in there.

Thanks June, maybe then there is light at the end of the tunnel...I wondered how long this would last..hopefully like you I will be over the worst in a month or so.
I too am using celluvisc and lachri lube...I hate waking up in the morning with such gungy eyes though!
Thanks again for your encouragement..
Love
Claire

Don't forget to wash those eyelids each am, Claire, with a baby shampoo or a lid care product. At least this helps with the outside lid gunge, if not the blurring. My eyes are so very, very dry right now there's no blurring at all by the morning - even after a 2nd application in the middle of the night!

Good luck

I'm sorry you are so uncomfortable. I found the extreme light sensitivity and dryness lasted a couple of weeks and it slowly eased off. I used lacrilube too and drops every 10-15 minutes in the day. I used non preservative ones [expensive here] for 2 weeks as my normal drops hurt a bit. I found the 1st 6 weeks difficult with headaches and sore eyes.
Good luck for your scan. I think it was you who had a leaking breast? I had a leaky breast, I blamed a mammogram. My Dr said that it was a coincidence. My prolactin [?] level was ok, my Dr said some women start producing milk again in the menopause years. I don't know how old you are. It took about 9 months for mine to stop, it was mainly at night, I would wake up in the morning soaked on one side. Let us know how you get on. Take care!

Thanks for your wise words. I went to my emergency GP tonight and he gave me a prescription for liquifilm and lacri-lube...which means that i get them free! (i don't pay for prescritions as i have to take thyroxine and in the uk that qualifies you for free meds!). he was so kind and empathic it made me feel good!he was genuinely concerned...but had never heard of Botox...so he got a 5 min lecture from me!
Christine...my prolactin levels came back high..and my vision had blurred in the same week the milk started.. hopefully it is just a side effect from all the meds i am on...the scan will tell! anyway pituitary tumors are generally pretty treatable...
June...I am so glad that I can anticipate these horrible vision side effects fading in a few weeks! It's hard doing an Art and Design course with practically no vision! It was a struggle before..but now it is almost impossible..however the tutors are being really supportive, and the other students make my day by their brilliant company..so I will struggle on!
Best Wishes
Claire..in gale ridden england!
