Hi--
I've used Iopidine drops 3x daily for post-Botox ptosis--been doing this for a week now. With the drops, things are not 'normal', but Iopidine definitely helps. Rather than being nearly shut, my droopy eye is only a little worse than on the previous few occasions when I've had mild ptosis (not severe ptosis, as seems to be the case this time). And my vision is OK, that is, not interfered with by a low-hanging eyelid. But when I get up in the morning, and before I put in the first round of daily eyedrops, the ptosis looks pretty much as bad as it did when it appeared 2 1/2 weeks ago. (And with the mild ptosis in the past, it would have completely resolved within 2 weeks.) So I'm wondering: (1) for how long others have used these drops? (2) Did you use them 3x a day as prescribed, or 'as needed', say, 1-3 times a day? (3) And has any doctor or other source warned against using these drops for too long, or at all? Thanks, Judith K |

1) periodically over several weeks - but probably not more than 4 weeks
2) Used them as needed, usually 2 or 3 times per day 3) No Have never had ptosis go away as quickly as 2 weeks, always 5-6 weeks or more. Though I don't get it every time, depending on where the shots are going. Cheers Peter |

Thanks for the response, Peter!
Why did you use for 4 weeks when your ptosis takes 5-6 weeks or more to go away? Is the ptosis just that much better? Do you run out of drops after 4 weeks? Or is it due to some inbred caution? Luckily (so far) I've only had ptosis--well, this is the 6th or 7th time in 5 years, and the only time severe enough to call for help.

I'm lucky in that the ptosis is a nuisance rather than very serious, so I didn't have to use drops to survive. More a case of neglecting them and thinking after that I should have used them more. Not familiar with these drops. Are they prescription and what do they do? I was encourage to order my ptosis glasses from the gentleman in IL by the information you posted. They do help me a great deal and I'll ask my Dr. to go back to more agressive injections around the eyes in Nov. He had backed off becaus of the severe ptosis I experienced. Thanks Charlene |

Glad the ptosis crutch is helping. Iopidine is a prescription eyedrop used for glaucoma and other ailments. It's use for offsetting ptosis is off-label i.e. a different use than that originally approved. It stimulates an eyelid muscle called the Meuller muscle, and that results in a small degree of lifting up of the lid. So it can help ptosis to a degree that many find useful. Not a cure, just another trick in the bag to help a bit. Cheers Peter |
