My thanks to those who sent good vibes about my limited myectomy procedure. In due course I will post something more comprehensive than this (with photos to Shirley), but as we're doing one eye at a time it's premature to post re any conclusions. In summary, I'm a spasmmer, not a blinky, so the doc takes out a lot of upper lid muscle (he takes a lot less for blinkers and apraxia cases). His belief is when taking a lot, doing one at a time, and using a drain and a patch for a couple of days gives the best overall recovery time. I can vouch for what was in the drain. If that had to be absorbed into the flesh, the bruising and the swelling would have to be a lot worse. The procedure was painless - allegedly I was somewhat awake, but I don't remember that. Discomfort after was more to do with how the patch was positioned than anything else. The unoperated left eye seems to be trying to spasm, but the (operated on) right doesn't seem to want to cooperate with it, so that's a good sign - but far too early to know. Right eye looks like it took a good left hook, and is a bit dry (levator tightened, not yet settled into position). Otherwise OK so far. Cheers Peter |

Betty, Your surgery was a Bi-Lateral Myectomy with External Levator Resection. What has your experience been that you are considering another? Judy |

I have had two different types of botox and two surgeries and nothing has helped me at all .. not even for a little bit ... Dr. May in Seattle said he has one more type of botox (mybloc) and if that does not work he said I should have this orbicularis surgery (whatever that is) I seem to be immune to everything :( I am so discouraged ... nothing helps ... |

Betty, I can't walk in your shoes, however ...
Point of the story ... I had not realized how much it had been helping all along. Study your results and compare them with your doctor(s). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. We are all here for you and remember we walk in our 'similar' family of shoes. Take care, Judy |

Thanks for the "first" of your updates, Peter! I had a lot of excess tearing (but I had upper tear ducts cauterized) and a lot of itching but like you, not much pain at all. The drain sounds like an excellent idea along with the patching. Were either of your eyes worse than the other? Did he remove muscle just from the immediate upper lid area or did he extend outward any or at all under the brow? Incision line middle of upper lid, I assume? When is your left eye to be done? Shirley in New Mexico

Shirley, Were either of your eyes worse than the other? No Did he remove muscle just from the immediate upper lid area or did he extend outward any or at all under the brow? Only lid, but all of the lid except a layer across the top of the lash line. Incision line middle of upper lid, I assume? Yes, along the crease line When is your left eye to be done? Sept 9th Peter |
