I'm so glad that you posted, Joyce. I was wondering how things had gone. Sounds like you are doing fine. Be kind to yourself and use lots of lubricating drops. I hope that the third time is the one that is going to work for you. I really think that Dr. Anderson's surgery will at least improve things for you.
Enjoy those open eyes but remember to rest them.Shirley in Arkansas

Thanks so much for posting your experiences. In a lot of ways, sounds similar to mine two years ago, only I didn't have as many people waiting on me! :-) Praying for good healing and super results for you!

Great to hear from you Joyce. I talked to the girls at Dr. Anderson's office re: some of my ins. business and was asking about you, but of course, they could not professionally tell me anything about how you were doing. Yes, I will always remember hearing the 'clop-clop'clop' of those covered cowboy boots going by while waiting for surgery. I knew you'd do great. I find so far (and I understand it gets worse)the fact that you itch in those numb areas and the scratching does NO good - you can't feel it at all. It will be 5 weeks tomorrow since my surgery and I have a little blue area on the right (aggressive)eye and still a lot of swelling, which we know will take some time to go down (but like you said, 'our eyes are open and people say we look good/better'. I couldn't stand that ointment in my eyes at night, because I couldn't see worth a flip in the morning, but soon learned I HAVE to use it EVERY night. It is SO important. It's just something we will have to live with and endure to make it through this thing, but it's worth it.
Enjoy your rest and all that TLC and have a safe trip home. Keep posting as to your progress. Patti in SC

Joyce, glad to hear that things went well for you despite the bus trip. Dr. Anderson is a special guy and I know you will see much improvement over time. I did check up on you and was told things went fine but did not know where you were staying. I usually try and call people to help cheer them up after the operation as sometimes it is a little tough being blind for a ffew days. I figured we would hear from you soon though. Keep us posted on your progress and by all means, give the bus company heck....Alan

Hi everyone, I have been home for a week from Utah, and its two weeks since my surgery. I found out not only do I have BEB but also Apraxia and Blepharitis. I have blurry vision, numb forehead along with eye lids, and watery eyes, swelling and a few yellow and green markings. but other than that I feel pretty good, and my eyes are open. Dr Anderson referred me to a Dr. in Pittsburgh for a follow up in 6 weeks. which I am very thankful. While we were in Utah I bought the FL41 and had my reading glasses tinted. We stayed at the Chase Suites and those people were very helpful. Salt Lake City would be a place to visit if your eyes were open, but I did see snow covered mountains, when we landed. Dr. Anderson told me at my evaluation that you have little pain, but I would be uncomfortable, which I can honestly say I was. I was at a point that I would have done anything to have my eyes open.
Thank You everyone for giving me an idea of what to expect.

Hi Dorothy,
Thanks for letting us hear from you. I have had you in my thoughts along with Joyce. So glad that your surgery went well. The numbness and swelling will last for a time, but will gradually be better. Don't neglect to use the ointment in your eyes and try to rest as much as possible. The numbness lasted for about one and half years with me.
I had the myectomy in 1999 and have not had to get Botox since.
I agree that Salt Lake City must be nice to visit when ones eyes are open.Sending you best wishes! Corrie in S.C.

If you have one eye done at a time , are you still blind for awhile? Ann Doyle

Ann,
I had both eyes done on the same day, and wore bandages for four days. If you only have one eye done I am sure you would be able to see with the one uncovered. I understand that Dr. Anderson does only one eye at a time now in most instances.Corrie

Thanks Corrie, I had planned on having them done at the same time but after reading Joyce's message plus 4 days, I think I'll plan on one at a time

Ann,
Four days with bandages is not the norm. My surgery was done on a Thursday. I believe he usually leaves them on for two days. Friday being too early and his office was closed on Saturday and Sunday. He did call my room and offered to come on Saturday morning and remove them. He had already told me that the longer they were on the better I would heal. So, I decided to wait until Monday morning. It is no picnic to be totally blind for four days, but I did cope with it and did heal well. Hope this clarifies why I had bandages for four days.I believe I would still prefer to have both done at the same time.Corrie

Thanks Carrie, I have already talked to Dr. Anderson's office and he does usually do them separately but since we were coming from such a long distand, he would do them both at once. I think I would prefer that. Ann Doyle

Hi Carrie,
I do use the ointment at night, and the drops during the day. Dr Anderson suggested to use warm wash clothes 3 or 4 times a day which I also do. It was very encouraging to hear that you do not need botox thats what I am hoping for.
Thanks dorothy in cold cold Pa.
